What are the Estyn standards?
We inspect quality and standards in education and training providers in Wales. We are responsible for inspecting: nursery schools and settings that are maintained by, or receive funding from, local authorities.
What do Estyn ratings mean?
In their evaluations, inspectors rate on a four-point scale of excellent, good, adequate or unsatisfactory for three key questions. They rank current performance and prospects for improvement; and consider a range of topics including teaching, leadership, wellbeing and resource management.
What is the Welsh equivalent of Ofsted?
In Wales the regulator and inspectorate for childcare is Care Inspectorate Wales, in England Ofsted. Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) regulates and inspects childcare based on these minimum standards.
